2012 Columbus Volksfest Part 1

Hello reader(s), Well as usual, it seems, I am late with updates. I've been busy. I landed a job as a science writer/marketing person for www.fondriest.com/news. So far so good. I have to say that the new camera I've been using eliminates need for a lot of editing. It's one of those Olympus slr/point-and-shoot hybrids. We had a late start heading out to Columbus on Friday. We headed to a bus camp-out. I was tired and impatient so I had the bus wound up running 70 mph all the way there. That was definitely about her max speed and it was not comfortable. Talk about loud! I got used to catching it after big gusts of wind blew across the highway. Still it ran well and never gave us any problems, beside the usual oil leaks. I've slowed those lately though. Photobucket There she is the next morning. Photobucket Photobucket The camp-out was called Dixie Bus. There was at least 30 buses of all kinds there; mostly bays. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket The show was pretty well occupied. It was dark and gloomy the whole time but it never rained. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Sweet green caddy. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket The giant skate returns! I really liked this radical fastback. It was set up as a drag car. I think it will be a tough car to sell but who ever buys it will have a heap of fun. Photobucket Photobucket The tip of the bus iceberg...there were many! Photobucket I've never been a fan of the the patina'd lowered look on a bus. I like it lowered. There's too much area to have it look nasty. Take that rocker panel for example. Ours is nasty but I'd never enjoy driving it falling apart. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Speaking of falling off... Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket There never seem to be any ratty Things at the Columbus show. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket I really liked this fasty as well. I'm not too sure how he made the flames. Rust and flat paint is my best guess. Photobucket Photobucket The King Cab made famous in Hot VW's Magazine. Photobucket Photobucket Line of buses complete with a Champagne Edition. Photobucket Photobucket Really like the Bay Doublecab. Photobucket Photobucket This yellow caddy was pretty nice. I think the guy went just far enough with the body customization. It's not exactly my style but not bad. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Slammed. Photobucket Photobucket I've always liked this Gti. It's got a great color, turbo and subtle interior. Photobucket Photobucket I saw a Bumble Bee 914 for the first time in person. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket I really like the lowered patina style on Beetles, like this one. The curvy lines make it work well. Photobucket Photobucket There was a crew of guys with lowered air-cooled's hanging out on one edge of the show. Photobucket A little more bus action now. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket This guy was pretty cool. I liked how his rabbit looked with slicks. He did have a little Honda diss sticker though. Photobucket Photobucket Aaaand a turbo. Photobucket Photobucket Love the awning, unfortunately there were only management positions available haha. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Very classy Jetta, that's my style. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket The orange bus had a very clean engine bay. Photobucket Cool silver Gti. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Here's a little more of the Champagne Edition. Photobucket Photobucket It came with a brown dash. Photobucket Color matched interior too. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket This bus is very cool. I see it pretty often at shows. I really looks good in a color combo I wouldn't necessarily try. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Liked the Squareback. I think it was the only one at the show. Photobucket Very nice notch. Type threes always get me going. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket In case you ever wondered how to tell a Super Beetle and a standard apart, here's some reference. The Super is on the left and the standard is on the right. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket I really liked the Karmann Ghia. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket There was a pretty good showing of 'verts there. Hell there was a good showing of just about everything haha. Photobucket What a color for wheels. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Alright and I'll leave off with the early, early Beetle. There's plenty more to come. Talk about three more split Beetles, some Volksrods and probably 25 other cars. Also I have a part in development...more on that later!
