I have written about the King Midget before but I not have a much more in depth knowledge of the car after talking to the owner Glen and his wife Ann.
The car was truly built with purpose. One may question this...Practicality in something the size of a golf cart? Ganted it did have golf cart options.
But the king midget did not kid itself or anyone else. It was built as an around the town cruiser and most maxed out around 45 or 50 miles per hour. It is common to swap more hopped up motors into the cars which get them to, what must be a terrifying, 60mph.
I recently read a notice that said that an owners clutch system had snapped because of the cars top speed. He had some pieces embedded in his back but he was fine.
The two speed transmission also exemplifies that simplicity is truly genius. It acts similar to the cvts of today. The key are a set of weights and springs which move in respect to the engine speed and throttle input. This allows a constant and smooth transition of two belt driven pulleys on the engine and drivetrain. The transition is based on throttle input and does not use any kind of manual shifting mechanism. Many Cars did not even have a reverse gear.
I could go on and on but I known no one likes reading.
For the visit my friend who is a photographer came. She really tore it up.

This Model 2 had a two cylinder swapped into it. The thing sounded like a harley when the Glen started it. I think it would be hilarious to roll up to somebody at a light in that thing.
