I've been pretty well off my game of late. I'm back with a late update. I received a press release from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in early November with this title: "Hyundai/Kia to Correct Overstated MPG Claims as Result of EPA Investigation."
Let me tell you I couldn't be happier. Number one I have always been skeptical of the car maker. It seems they are so cheap that it's too good to be true, in my mind.
I have many theories on how this cheapness translates to a bad car. All are unfounded beyond anecdotal evidence, so take them as you will.
My first case. Take a look at all the Hyundai/Kia's out of warranty over ten years old. Most generally don't look too pretty. That is most likely the owners fault though.
Next take a look at Hyundai/Kia exterior design. In my opinion it seems to be an amalgamation of several cars with a Hyundai/Kia badge. That could be all cars but take a look.

This is the most clear example I have. Maybe, probably, I'm crazy or delusional but you can't tell me they don't look a little too similar.
Now there's the EPA investigation. One that came after "EPA had received a number of consumer complaints about Hyundai mileage estimates," according to the release. The numbers were off from one to six mpg's across the board. They were overestimated by six mpgs for the Kia Soul.
By the way...

I could help think of this commercial and laugh when I saw the release.
Think about it before you consider a Hyundai/Kia. Or at least think about it before you call this blogger, science writer wanna-be sane! Cheers!
